Adelaide’s first #instameet for Instagram lovers
If you’re ever on Twitter and Facebook you’ll know about Instagram, the photo-sharing app that Apple picked as it’s iPhone App of the Year for 2011. If you don’t have it on your iPhone or iPad, grab it today. It’s free to download here.
There are several reasons for Instagram’s popularity:
- many people have the iPhone 4 /4s and the camera quality’s great
- you can easily add filters and frames to your photos
- you can share the images to your Twitter, Facebook and Flickr accounts
- it’s easy to find and follow people you know on Instagram, and
- you can use hashtags to find and share photos.
Recently local Adelaide instagrammer Kalista Campbell found herself addicted to Instagram and saw that other cities around the world had their own instacities groups.
“I wanted to see photos of Adelaide, and was frustrated that we didn’t have our own group,” she told us. “So that’s why I started Adelaide Instagram Facebook Group – I didn’t want to sit around waiting for someone else to do it.”
She’s been encouraging fellow Adelaide users to tag their photos with #instagramadelaide and has organised Adelaide’s first “instameet” this evening (February 3 2012) at 6pm at E for Ethel on Melbourne Street, North Adelaide. It’s a chance for anyone in Adelaide who uses Instagram to catch up.
“Most people are understandably hesitant to go and meet a bunch of randoms from the internet, so instameets around the world have generally started off small,” Kalista said. “I’m hoping the photos and positive experiences from tonight’s instameet encourage other people to come along to our future events.”
In the coming months Kalista will be looking to organise photowalks and other instagram related activties.
If you don’t have an iPhone you can still keep an eye on the #instagramadelaide hashtag on Twitter, or browse Instagram photos online on a page like Statigram.
